The new product Cention N from Ivoclar Vivadent is a metal-free filling material which has been developed in response to the global initiative established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to reduce the use of mercury.

Cention N is an affordable, metal-free filling material that meets the demand for mercury-free restorations. With the launch of this new filling material, Ivoclar Vivadent has shown its commitment to finding viable alternatives to amalgam by 2020, as required by the UNEP initiative.

Joint commitment

At the recent World Oral Health Forum in Poznań, Poland, representatives of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the World Dental Federation (FDI) declared their commitment to promoting the development of inexpensive, mercury-free alternatives to amalgam in restorative dentistry. Even though UNEP has questioned the environmental safety of amalgam due to its mercury content, the product remains very popular in developing and threshold countries because of its successful long-term track record. Furthermore, access to modern esthetic dental composites is limited in these countries.

Cention N – the alternative to amalgam

Cention N has been specially developed for the requirements of these markets. The filling material offers a cost-efficient substitute for amalgam and fulfils the need for an esthetic material in the posterior region. Additional attractive features of the product include its high bending strength and straightforward application protocol.

Few working steps

The product is applied without having to use a primer, varnish or curing light. Compared with conventional glass ionomer cements, it saves up to seven working steps (comparison with the clinical procedure of Fuji IX GP from GC). This innovative new powder-liquid filling material is suitable for the placement of permanent Class I and II restorations in the posterior region.
